Celtic are leading the race to sign Israel striker Itay Schechter according to latest reports.

“The one team who really want me and have made the most effort is Celtic” – Itay Schechter

The Hoops are heading a list including Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle United and West Ham United for the 23-year-old who has netted 30 goals in 54 games for Hapoel Tel Aviv since joining them last year.

“I have offers from several teams but my agent, Ronen Katsav, told me not to get carried away,” Schechter told SkySports. “The one team who really want me and have made the most effort is Celtic. Liverpool and Lyon came to see me play but unfortunately I was injured. There is interest from Schalke and that would be the best move for me.

“I think Hapoel will want to keep me in January because we need the team to stay together if we want to win the league,” he added. “But I would be tempted if I got an offer from England, Spain, or Germany.”
