Celtic line-up Viduka return? Never!

The Unlikeliest Rumour of the Day award has to go to the claim that Celtic are considering a summer move for former striker Mark Viduka – as are Spurs, Newcastle and Rangers.

The 31-year-old Australian’s contract with Middlesbrough is set to expire at the end of the season and, while boss Gareth Southgate hopes a new deal can be agreed, it is looking like he will be playing elsewhere by the start of the next campaign.

But surely there is no chance he could return to Parkhead after his last stint here between 1998 and 2000. While he averaged nearly a goal a game, his comments that he didn’t need to play at 100 per cent in the SPL didn’t impress many – and when he needed to put in more effort during Old Firm games, he apparently couldn’t.

Gordon Strachan is his own man, though, and he might consider Viduka to be the perfect partner for Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. On second thoughts, no he wouldn’t…

If only Anthony Stokes had opted for Celtic instead of taking what Sunderland offered, JVoH could already have the perfect partner – young, proven and trained by a world-class club. But Stokes didn’t grab the jersey when it was held out for him, and that’s almost as bad as Viduka’s attitude at Parkhead.
