Celtic (according to the Daily Record) are amongst another 7 teams in a race to sign the Algerian player Ahmed Touba who can play left back and centre back, from Dutch side RKC Waalwijk.
Celtic have proven recently with interest in Alexandro Bernabei, that they are keen on bringing in a new left back to the club to strengthen the squad. This is a position in the squad that needs depth as despite Greg Taylor playing a massive role in this seasons success by going forward and also having some great defensive performances it is definitely one of the weakest areas on the park. With the recent news of Liam Scales apparently heading out on loan to Aberdeen, this would leave Celtic going into the new season with only one left back at the club.
Touba’s performances for RKC Waalwijk have earned him 5 international appearances for his national side Algeria. Touba played his part for his national side in AFCON qualifications playing against Tanzania and Uganda. He is making a name for himself within his home country by becoming a reliable player when called upon.
Touba’s contract at RKC Waalwijk expires in June 2023. This could enhance the transfer of the player this summer as it may be the clubs last chance to receive a fee for the player. However, it is not only Celtic who are keen on the signing of Touba as clubs such as Marseille, Sevilla, Olympiakos, Angers, Benfica, Real Betis, AEK Athens and Bayern Leverkusen are all also interested. This makes the possibility of this deal more unrealistic as Celtic will not be able to compete with the wages that some of these teams will be able to offer.
