Celtic have been linked with a move for St Johnsone midfield starlet, Ali McCann. The young Northern Irish midfielder has been in outstanding form for The Saints and has caught the attention of many pundits, including Kelty Hearts boss Barry Ferguson.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Ferguson was full of praise for the midfielder and tipped him for a big move over the summer, “He’s one of the best, no doubt in my mind about that. A fantastic young talent. I have watched his progress over the last couple of years, and he’s matured and he turning into a top player. And I think if it’s not this summer, next season will be his last season with St Johnstone.

“If he continues that sort of form, I’ve got no doubt in my mind that bigger clubs will be looking at him.  It wouldn’t surprise me (if Celtic or Rangers moved for him) that’s how highly I rate him and he’s improved every single time I’ve watched him.”

McCann started his career at St Johnstone in 2012 after being scouted from youth side, Hutchison Vale Boys Club. He made the breakthrough to The Saints first team in 2017 and also had a brief loan spell at Stranraer.

So far, he has made 67 appearances for St Johnstone and scored six goals but it is his form this season that has made Celtic sit up and take notice of him. McCann is a Northern Irish full international and made his debut against Austria back in November 2020 and has four caps to his name.
