Celtic lose out again as target choses EFL

|

Celtic have again lost out on another transfer target as Alfie Doughty seals his move to Stoke City.

Celtic had made two offers for the midfielder but both were knocked back by Charlton as they sought to get some value for their player who is out of contract in the summer rather than lose him for nothing.

Stoke made an offer thought to be in the region of £600,000 and boss, Michael O’Neil, will be delighted to have fought off the competition from Celtic to land his man  “”We are delighted to get Alife in. He fits the profile of type of player we want to bring to the Club – he is young, keen and wants to prove himself.

“Unfortunately, he’s injured at present but we have taken the opportunity to sign him now because he was much in demand and we have beaten off a great deal of competition.”

Doughty is one of a number of targets that have slipped through the net for the Hoops as defenders Mark McKenzie and Filip Benkovic both chose the Belgium Juliper League to showcase their skills.

The transfer window slams shut on the 1st February and so far Lennon has made no signings so far.
