Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has broken his silence after the confirmation that he would take a break from football for the foreseeable future.

The 28-year-old made 22 appearances so far in 2018/19, including international matches, giving a return of six goals but he last featured for us in early December’s victory over Kilmarnock. Following the confirmation from manager Brendan Rodgers that he would be taking a break for personal reasons, the internet and some press have been wild on the ‘reasons’ behind the decision, but last weekend Griffiths came out fighting.

Taking to social media to address some of the claims doing the rounds, he posted.

Quite a strong set of words from the man, but given the claims it’s perfectly understandable as to why he chose the words he did and the message found plenty of favour on Twitter from those fans (of all colours) who took the time to reply – there were even encouraging words from the more sensible Rangers fans out there wishing him a swift recovery.

The more outlandish claims will always take the headlines, but fair play to those with a brain.

It sadly won’t stop the speculation, but it’ll be interesting to see if anyone tries to rise to his challenge. I’m guessing they won’t.
