Lee Congerton is set to exit his role as Celtic’s Head of Recruitment, according to talkSPORT.

Appointed by the club in March 2017, the former Chelsea Chief Scout was a known ally of Brendan Rodgers within Celtic and many have expected him to walk away from the Hoops in the wake of Rodgers’ exit to Leicester City.

Criticised by fans as part of a failed transfer cycle over the last couple of years, he is not likely to be missed by the majority of supporters, who see him as a person not quite getting the job done when it comes to recruitment.

The radio station report that he was in fact one of the names considered for the role of sporting director at the club, the much mooted buffer between Peter Lawwell and the Hoops’ next permanent manager, but has decided to move on now Rodgers is away.

While some signing successes have happened under his watch, notably the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Olivier Ntcham, many other failures and flops have been on the books.

Whatever happens next at Celtic, we need to do a much better job of recruitment and it seems Congerton won’t be part of that.
