It’s becoming clearer and clearer that Celtic simply must tie Ryan Christie down to a new contract after his emergence into Brendan Rodgers’ first team.

He has played a big part in our excellent form over the last week, first changing the Scottish League Cup semi-final against Hearts before scoring another goal against Dundee at Dens Park.

His latest display against Hearts yesterday in league action was further proof he has added a new dynamism to the Celtic midfield, in a similar manner to the departed Stuart Armstrong, who the club did not adequately replace in summer.

Both Christie and the manager admitted last week that talks were ongoing regarding him staying at the club beyond this season, when his current deal runs out. However logical it may seem, sometimes Celtic do let things like this drag on too long.

Still just 23 years of age, Christie has the potential to be a big player for us domestically and showed against Leipzig he has the potential to take his efforts onto the continental stage too.

It may be early in his Hoops career with regards to appearances, but he’s taking his current chance in the first-team excellently and we can’t afford to let him slip through our fingers, especially with the lack of attacking depth in the central midfield areas.

Do you think Ryan Christie has done enough to earn a new contract? Have your say in our poll below…
