As Celtic defensive worries continue, there could be light at the end of the tunnel if Liverpool’s move for Ibrahima Konaté goes through this summer.

The French under21 international has currently completed the first phase of his medical to Anfield and as the young RB Leipzig defender enters the final twenty four months of his contract, the German club are in no mood to sell as Sporting Director, Markus Krosche still believes they can hold ono their man, “I do not think that this is an option for Ibu. He has a long contract with us, he knows what he means to us and what we mean to him.

“He was unlucky last season with a long injury, but this year, he is developing well and is an extremely important player with a lot of potential.

“We want to help him to develop further and we have a very good team, so I don’t see a reason why he would leave us.”

Twenty one year old Konaté has made twelve appearances for the French Under 21 team but has not yet made his full debut for the senior squad.

If this deal goes through, former Hoops target Ben Davies, will fall further behind the pecking order as Virgil Van Djik and Joe Gomez both return from long term knee injuries and this could alert Celtic to the possibility of making a move for the big defender as rumours earlier in the month suggested Davies may re-evaluate his options at the end of the season in order to get more game time.
