Celtic are interested in signing right-back Tom James this summer, as Brendan Rodgers continues his hunt for a right-back that can compete for a first-team place with long serving defender Mikael Lustig.

Celtic are set to begin the 2018/19 season tonight in Armenia, going through their final preparations ahead of the vital UEFA Champions League qualifying clash against Alashkert.

The first-team squad hasn’t changed much since last term, with the permanent arrivals of Scott Bain and Odsonne Edouard the only incoming deals so far.

However, increasing the options available to him seems to be a priority for Rodgers, with The Daily Record reporting that Tom James is firmly on Celtic’s radar.

The paper say that the Hoops are competing with the likes of Swansea City and Hull City for his signature this summer.

James has been linked with a move to Glasgow for a number of months now, with outlets like The Telegraph reporting that the club were after him as long ago as March.

That suggests he’s definitely a player that Rodgers fancies, despite making the vast majority of professional appearances so far in League Two with Yeovil Town.

The report comes after the Hoops have already been recently linked with the likes of Moses Odubajo and Nathan Byrne, with the club clearly on the hunt for a right-back.

Mikael Lustig may not have played to the highest of standards last term, but he’s still an elite international and replacing him with a player from English League Two doesn’t seem especially viable.

Heading into the final year of his contract, James would likely be a budget buy, but the hope would be that he is a rough diamond ready for the Rodgers polish.
