Former Rangers midfielder, Charlie Adam, has made a bizarre claim ahead of the first derby of the season suggesting that he has insider information on the Celtic dressing room.
Speaking on PLZ Soccer and reported by The Scottish Sun, the Dundee man has identified a weakness in the Hoops rearguard and reveals who has been causing problems for Neil Lennon.
So what has Adam said?
When asked for his verdict ahead of the first derby of 2020, he said:
“Rangers will be trying to target [Greg] Taylor and Ajer. I think Ajer has been all over the place this season because he wants out, his head has been everywhere.
“There’s one or two grumblings at Celtic as well.
“The lads wanted to go away in this last window to try and get out.
“Bitton was causing a little bit of an issue, so it’s strange times.
“Listen, Celtic are a good side. They’ve got a good manager who has been here before.
“They’ve got good experience in [Scott] Brown and [Callum] McGregor who will get them through the game.
“But I just think if Rangers target that left side they will get some great opportunities between Taylor and Ajer.”
So is Adam correct?
It had been made public that Kris Ajer’s agent was in contact with the club about getting a price for the centre-half so that they could talk to other clubs, but the window has shut now and he remains focussed on the Celtic, there has never been anything about Nir Bitton.
Are Ajer and Taylor "weak links"?
The big Israeli could have left not long ago but has signed a new contract, hardly the actions of someone trying to engineer an exit.
Lennon’s men have been far from their fluent best this season and yet they are still in pole position, sitting just two points behind Rangers with a game in hand, a win on Saturday would be an early marker confirming what we already know – Celtic remain the team to beat in Scotland.
