Craig Gordon has been a regular at Celtic over the last year, but it could have been very different. The goalkeeper was, at one time, the subject of interest from English giants Chelsea.

The Blues needed cover for their goalkeeping spot, and they turned to our veteran shot-stopper to find it.

In the end, though, he decided to turn that interest down, and now, as per the Daily Record, he’s explained why.

According to the Daily Record, he said: “It was a very flattering offer, a huge club and it was a difficult thing to turn down but I was on the cusp of winning an invincible Treble and to be part of history in this club is massive and it was a huge honour to be part of that”.

He added: “That is something money can’t buy and it is something that will stick with me for the rest of my days”.

The chance to move to Chelsea must have been tempting, given that they compete on so many stages, but in the end he chose to stick it out at Celtic Park, and we’re very thankful for that.

Despite his age, he’s still a fantastic goalkeeper, and we think he’s still got more than a few years left in him.

Beyond that, though, it’s important to have players that love the club. He clearly appreciates everything that the Hoops have done for him, and he’s evidently eager to pay that back. Loyalty is often rare in football these days, but Gordon clearly has it in bucketloads.
