Celtic have rejected Hull City’s ambitious bid for their leading goalscorer Gary Hooper.

The Tigers are understood to have lodged an offer approaching £4.5m for the 25-year-old former Scunthorpe United marksman. However, the SPL champions immediately responded by turning down the advances of the English Premier League newcomers.

Hooper still has a year remaining on his current deal at Parkhead after totalling 31 goals last season, in the process helping his club to a superb domestic double while also reaching the last sixteen of the Champions League.

It follows the Hoops similarly rejecting bids from Norwich City during the latest January transfer window. Meanwhile, the likes of Sunderland, Southampton and Reading have also been linked with the highly-rated forward over recent months.
