According to the Daily Record, Celtic’s hunt for Huddersfield right-back Tommy Smith is set to prove fruitless with the player instead preferring a move to Stoke City.

It’s clear that the Hoops need new options at right-back for the coming season.

Mikael Lustig ended his long association with the football club earlier this summer whilst Jeremy Toljan saw his loan deal come to an end without any sign he’d be staying longer.

We need to add, then, and Smith – valued at £2.7m by transfermarkt – was a target but it seems as though he has picked Stoke City instead and so he is swapping one Championship side for another.

The Potters, of course, are looking ambitious this season with the players they have signed already and with the money they can offer but surely winning titles and playing in Europe has its draws too?

Regardless, it looks as though this one isn’t happening and we’ll quickly have to move on as time is of the essence.
