Celtic set to compete with Premier League sides for 15-goal attacker this January

|

Celtic are interested in signing Sunderland forward Josh Maja during the January transfer window, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The paper say that the Hoops will look to include struggling defender Jack Hendry as a sweetener in the deal, with the striker having recently turned down a lucrative new deal to stay at the Stadium Of Light.

Maja’s current contract expires at the end of the season meaning the North East English club may be powerless to stop the 20-year-old make the move to Scotland.

He is a highly rated young prospect and has shown the kind of consistency this season to alert clubs from the Premier League and Germany to his services alongside Celtic, according to the report.

The attacker has scored 15 goals in all competitions this season, helping Sunderland in their bid to gain promotion back to the Championship.

Although we are currently well-stocked on the striker front, Timothy Weah is set to return to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and the future of Leigh Griffiths at the club is currently unknown.

Maja fits the bill in terms of providing cover for Odsonne Edouard and Vakoun Issouf Bayo, also possessing the potential to one day be a first-team regular.
