Celtic are set to make progress in their pursuit of striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo this week, with the selling club eager to hold discussions, as reported by The Daily Mail.

The Hoops have registered an official bid for the forward already, reported to be worth £1.75m. However, Slovakian club Dunajska Streda are eager to land a fee of around £2.3m for his services.

Sporting director Jan Van Daele told The Daily Mail: “We confirm we have received an official offer from Celtic of which we acknowledged receipt. We are planning to start the negotiation process in due course.”

The 21-year-old is having a fantastic season, having scored 18 goals in 23 appearances across league, cup and European action. Also creating seven assists in that time, he’s a young prospect apparently to make a breakthrough in a higher profile league.

Celtic are badly in need of attacking options, with just Odsonne Edouard currently available as a natural in the central striking role, something that was painfully apparent in our recent trip to Ibrox.

The timetable of Leigh Griffiths’ return is not yet known and with competition heating up at home and abroad, the club need to make progress and bring in a quality alternative option to the Frenchman.

Fingers crossed that Vakoun Issouf Bayo is that player.
