While Celtic are widely anticipated to augment their squad with new arrivals in the summer transfer window, one of their most significant signings can be made from within. Leigh Griffiths is contracted until 2021, but it appears that the Bhoys are prepared to extend his contract as a way of thanking him for his endeavours and loyalty.

According to Celts are here, the striker is closing in on a new deal with Brendan Rodgers’ side. Since joining the Scottish champions from Wolves, Griffiths has established himself as a crucial part of the Celtic squad. He’s reached double figures in his past four seasons with the club and has attained a mightily impressive total of 98 goals in 177 appearances for the Bhoys – an average of more than a goal every two games.

During his spell with Celtic, the prolific forward has won ten trophies, and if the Bhoys can maintain their recent domination, he seems destined to prolong his honours list. In fact, his career goals tally is also extraordinary. In 388 senior appearances, the Scotsman has amassed a sensational total of 205 goals.

While Griffiths may not start every game, scarcely does he complain, and he’s testified his ability to lead the line for Brendan Rodgers’ side. The 27-year-old forward has represented his club in an exemplary manner, and he has ample time to consolidate his status as a Celtic great. It won’t be long at all until the centre-forward is a member of the Celtic 100 goals club. He is a vital player for the Bhoys.
