Celtic should look to £4m-rated former La Liga man as solution to Lustig dilemma

|

The January transfer window is in full swing and Celtic have wasted no time in adding key talent to Brendan Rodgers’ first-team squad.

The Hoops have already secured the talents of Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke on loan until the end of the season, also adding striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo on a permanent basis.

Fans though want more and are craving defensive signings to help the squad reach their full potential in the second half of the current campaign.

The right-back position remains a big priority, with Swedish international Mikael Lustig drawing heavy criticism over the last 12 months.

The long-serving defender is out of contract at the end of the season and while Celtic hold an option of extending that further another year, many fans would look to see us replace him as an automatic starter as soon as possible.

Finding a capable replacement, in January no less, is a real dilemma though.

Step forward English Premier League man Marc Navarro, who may have the playing experience and potential to be a hit at Celtic Park, while also being affordable.

Website Football.London believe he could be available for a fee of around £4m this month, despite only joining Watford in the summer. While an ambitious outlay for Celtic, it is a fee that could put the 23-year-old within reach.

He’s barely played for them since joining, starting just one league match all season, playing twice in the League Cup and appearing from the bench in an FA Cup match.

However he does have decent experience, having made close to 50 appearances for La Liga side Espanyol prior to his move to England.

With options behind Lustig. Anthony Ralston and Cristian Gamboa, not being fancied in the main by Rodgers, fresh blood is needed in the position and Navarro would appear to fit the bill.

Will Celtic bite over the next couple of weeks?
