Celtic have allegedly been in discussions with Sheffield Wednesday’s Sean Clare. The 21-year-old’s contract expires in July, and it is believed that both Rangers and Celtic are interested in the services of the English midfielder. The Bhoys should swoop in ahead of their local rivals to seal his signature.

According to Team Talk, Celtic have been in talks with Clare over a potential move to Celtic Park. Furthermore, Brendan Rodgers’ side would only have to pay minimum compensation to secure his signing, which could make the deal more enticing, especially from a financial perspective.

While the talented midfielder has only attained five appearances for the Owls in the Championship, he is expected to develop into an excellent player, and reportedly Brendan Rodgers is keen for that transformation to take place at Celtic Park.  Clare also enjoyed a loan spell with League One side, Gillingham, where he scored one goal in seven games.

To date, the Englishman has amassed 25 senior appearances, scoring three goals. Despite his relative inexperience, his promise and potential could make him an intriguing proposition for the Bhoys.

Naturally, for a player of Clare’s age, there are some weaknesses to his game that need refining.  Despite playing at the heart of midfield, the Sheffield Wednesday player isn’t particularly competent at tackling.  Similarly, he isn’t dominant while competing in aerial duels.

Having said that Clare displays superb blocking ability, and he has developed a useful propensity to intercept the ball. In addition to his tremendous dribbling ability, Clare exhibits good maturity for his age; he has the capacity to make intelligent decisions on the pitch.

Under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers, Celtic have successfully established a group of talented young players. The potential arrival of Sean Clare could further augment the quality of the Bhoys’ youngsters.
