If Celtic are to widen the gulf that exists between themselves and their fierce rivals, Rangers, they must sign the best players that are available to them. Their former midfielder, Ki Sung-Yeung has been made obtainable following his release from Swansea City.

The 29-year-old’s contract has expired with Swansea City following their relegation to the Championship, and the South Korean midfielder could prove to be the stellar addition that Celtic require to fortify their domestic superiority.

While there haven’t been any reports of Celtic interest in the experienced midfielder, the Bhoys should exploit his contractual status and see if the 29-year-old would entertain a return to Celtic Park.

The South Korean international had a decent individual season for Swansea, despite the Welsh’s side’s relegation. Ki contributed towards four league goals for the Swans, scoring two and providing two assists.

Since departing Celtic Park at the end of the 2011-12 season, the midfielder has amassed 160 appearances for Swansea, scoring 12 goals.

Ki is regarded for his shooting ability, especially from long-distance. Furthermore, he is especially useful from dead-ball situations. He is also respected for his unwavering concentration and intelligent understanding of the game. The 29-year-old is cautious and doesn’t commit needless challenges.

Despite the success that Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham have forged at the heart of midfield, the opportunity to sign experienced and talented players shouldn’t be ignored by Brendan Rogers.  At the age of 29, Ki is approaching the pinnacle of his career, and he could prove to be an exceedingly significant signing for the Scottish Champions.

Given the fact that Ki is available on a free transfer, the opportunity to add a player of his calibre and experience should be too good to resist for Brendan Rodgers.
