Since Brendan Rodgers’ appointment as Celtic manager in 2016, the Bhoys dominance has been irrefutable. They’ve won six trophies under his guidance and have dominated proceedings in the Scottish Premiership. Yet, to maintain their dominance, they must certify that they keep their best players. Thus, Dedryck Boyata shouldn’t be allowed to leave Celtic Park.

As Sport Witness’ report demonstrates, Boyata has become a target for some European teams, who have grown impressed with his performances and contributions to Celtic’s domination. Moreover, the 27-year-old started in Belgium’s 3-0 victory against Panama in their opening game in the World Cup, which has further enhanced Boyata’s profile.

To his credit, the Belgian defender has been a terrific player for Celtic since his arrival in 2015, and while there is only one year remaining on his contract, the Bhoys should do everything they can to ensure that the defender remains at Celtic Park. He was a pivotal figure for the Scottish champions last season, attaining 39 appearances and contributing to six goals – scoring three and registering three assists.

One of Boyata’s primary qualities is his versatility; he can operate confidently and competently at centre-back or right-back. As his performance in the World Cup demonstrated, he has sufficient quality to play at the highest level, and a player of his calibre and know-how must stay with Celtic.

The versatile defender played with palpable confidence for his country in their opening game of the World Cup. For a defensive player, he is technically sound and displays impressive passing ability. At his age, he has the potential to continue his status as being an instrumental player for several years to come, and Celtic would be oh so foolish not to extend his contract.  Without a doubt, securing his future should be Celtic’s priority.
