Celtic signing reveals the promise made that convinced him to move to Glasgow

|

New Celtic signing Oliver Burke has revealed a chat with Brendan Rodgers left him in no doubt he could improve as a player during his loan spell with the Hoops.

The winger was unveiled as a six month signing from West Bromwich Albion at the weekend and is set to immediately compete for a first-team place at Celtic Park.

The 21-year-old had other options in the second half of the season but once Celtic came in for him, there was no doubt in his mind where he wanted to play, with the deal sealed by the promise of improving under Rodgers after a talk with the manager.

As quoted by The Daily Mail, he explained:

I spoke to the gaffer Brendan and, instantly, he had a massive influence on me coming here. It’s a superb opportunity, and being out at the training camp is a real bonus as I will get to know the team and get used to the environment at Celtic, so it was a no-brainer for me.

This is something I had to take on straight away. I had a chat with the manager and I had no hesitation.

I know I can develop under him. He’s proven he can improve players. I’ll give 100 per cent and I don’t see why this move can’t further my career. It will make it better.

Burke is not the first player to be wooed by Rodgers in negotiations, with stars like Moussa Dembele previously revealing that it was after a meeting with the 45-year-old that they were convinced to join the Celtic project.

He has a fantastic track record of instilling confidence into young players and ultimately improving them on a technical level too. He did it at Swansea City and Liverpool and he’s currently doing it at Celtic.

Burke won’t have long to benefit from his coaching, but regular football at the Hoops could help resurrect his career and help us win more trophies in the process.
