I mentioned a couple of Spurs players Celtic were perhaps interested in last week, and another one has now emerged ? Pedro Mendes.

He was signed for £2m from Porto in 2004 and has started 25 Premiership games, although none since the start of October. The 26-year-old Portuguese plays in midfield though, and that is one area where we seem pretty well served. Unless someone is leaving of course, and this link will no doubt start the Petrov rumours again despite his protestations that he is staying.

Indeed, reserve team captain Paul Lawson ? who also operates in the middle of the park and made his debut this season – has signed a new deal which runs until 2008 reducing the opportunities for Mendes even further.

And Lawson led the reserves to a 2-0 win over Motherwell tonight. Didier Agathe and Stephen Pearson were the only players with real first-team experience, but Didi was forced off shortly into the second period, an injury which won?t help his bid to regain a first-team spot. His time could be running out.

David Marshall and Adam Virgo started in the Scotland Future team which beat Poland 2-0 at Rugby Park. Ross Wallace came off the bench in the second half.

Poor old Rangers ? ten games now without a win after another home draw against ten men, extending the worst record in their history. Surely the manager has to go now as they risk plunging even further down the table at the weekend, flirting with the bottom half as they are now.
