Celtic star looks for mental advantage over Valencia

|

Hoops defender Jeremy Toljan believes Celtic can take advantage of Valencia’s complacency during tonight’s UEFA Europa League clash, as reported by The Daily Record.

Brendan Rodgers and his side are currently in Spain preparing for a huge encounter at the famous Mestalla, hoping to somehow overturn a 2-0 first leg defeat at Celtic Park last week.

It’s a massive task and supporters may have lost all hope of progression, but it seems belief is still strong amongst the Celtic squad that a result can be found.

As quoted by The Daily Record, new signing Toljan said:

As we say in Germany ‘hope never dies’, so we’ll go there with the right attitude and try to beat them. Miracles happen.

They might think they are already through but we can maybe get inside their heads with a good start.

We started that game very well but if you make basic mistakes at this level then it can cost you. In Spain we need to cut out the errors and also improve our play.

I genuinely believe we can score against them and with a little bit of luck we can turn the tables on them.

If we score first at the Mestalla then we will see what happens. If we can do that maybe that will affect them mentally and they will start to think about what might happen next because you never know in football.

Celtic rarely travel well in Spain so the prospect of a positive result seems out of the question, with most fans feeling that avoiding a heavy defeat would be a good way to escape back to Scotland.

Our focus is primarily on domestic football now, with a ‘treble treble’ now firmly in our sights after moving eight points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Can the team at least deliver a performance to be proud of in Valencia?
