It’s not often to see players headbutted in matches, it’s even rarer to see it happen in two successive matches to the same player!

That’s the jinx that’s followed Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie around recently after games against Livingston and Albania.

The recent Hoops stand-out started his first Scotland match on Saturday night and found himself at the centre of another headbutt drama, with Mergim Mavraj sent off.

Christie has found the whole thing rather odd.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, he said:

I don’t know what it’s all about. That’s two headbutts in two games! I don’t really know what happened in Albania. I think it was him who made the first challenge.

I chased after the ball and kind of bumped in to him. He seemed to lose his head and went for me. I was just an innocent bystander and he stuck the head on me.

There wasn’t too much damage done and it ended up being a great night for us.

Christie was superb throughout what eventually became a 4-0 away win for the Scots, setting up the first goal of the night, which was finished by Ryan Fraser.

That he keeps winding up the opposition is probably a great sign he is doing everything right just now.

He’ll have another opportunity to shine on Tuesday night when Scotland host Israel in their final UEFA Nations League match, before returning to Celtic duty this weekend.
