Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has warned his faltering teammates that they must up their game over the next few weeks, or risk facing the axe in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Hoops were again well below their best in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, defeated 2-0 away from home against Hibernian.

While Brendan Rodgers’ side have won every match at home in the league, on the road it’s been a different story, winning just three of nine away matches.

It’s not good enough and Gordon knows his side must improve.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the veteran goalkeeper said:

It’s up to the manager to decide what he wants in his squad and the positions we have to improve. The guys who are here have to step up and make sure they are in the manager’s plans, especially leading up to January.

It’s up to us to make sure our performances are good. At a club this big, if your performances are not up to scratch for a period of time then you can get replaced.

We have to make sure we work hard enough to stay in the team and deliver the results the manager, the club and the fans want.

Celtic have four fixtures between now and the end of the year, culminating in a mammoth match away to Rangers at Ibrox on the 29th.

That’s looking like it’ll be a must-win fixture to ensure the Hoops are in pole position at the top of the table heading into 2019.

Hopefully the players answer Gordon’s call for improvements up to and including that clash, starting with this Wednesday’s fixture at home to Motherwell.
