Celtic do not yet know the extent of the injury sustained to midfielder Ryan Christie last night, with Brendan Rodgers only able to confirm that the player was on crutches after the match.

The stand-out midfielder collided with Japanese forward Takumi Minamino in the second half, attempting to block the Salzburg player from taking a shot at goal. Instead the 23-year-old was kicked forcefully in the back of the leg, immediately signalling to the bench he was in distress.

Unfortunately he was eventually stretchered off the field, requiring an inflatable splint to stabilise his leg in the process, leaving every onlooker incredible worried about the extent of the problem.

Rodgers refused to comment too much on the injury after the match.

Speaking to BBC Scotland, the Celtic boss said: “Ryan Christie was on crutches. It looked a sore one, but I don’t know the details. We’ll have to review it.”

Losing the midfielder for a lengthy period would of course be a real blow to the current Celtic side, with Christie being a breath of fresh air in the middle of the park since October.

He’s scored five goals in his last six league matches, also netting in both the League Cup semi-final and final.

It would be incredible disappointing for him to suffer a setback just as his Celtic career is taking off.
