Celtic striker Anthony Stokes has been charged with assault before a court in Ireland.

The Republic of Ireland international is accused of assaulting and injuring an Elvis impersonator in a Dublin nightclub. He was released on bail with no conditions and must appear in court again on 29th May.

The incident is alleged to have taken place following the international game between Ireland and the Faroe Islands at the Aviva Stadium on 8th June last year.

Former Hibernian striker Stokes was first arrested by Irish police and questioned last August. He was subsequently released without charge and a police file was despatched to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who in turn decided to prosecute.
