Celtic striker Gary Hooper has missed out on Roy Hodgson’s England squad for their friendly with Brazil on Wednesday.

That is despite both Jermain Defoe and Daniel Sturridge withdrawing through injuries, leaving only two front-line strikers in Manchester United duo Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney.

Hooper was previously called up for November’s friendly match against Sweden until being forced to pull out through injury.

The 25-year-old has already plundered 24 goals this season and was the subject of four failed bids from Norwich City only last month.

Hoops goalkeeper Fraser Forster is another not included in the English squad having missed Celtic’s last five games with a neck injury.
