Celtic defender Andrew Gutman is set to join Charlotte Independence on loan from the Bhoys with the view to him earning more minutes on the pitch.
The Bhoys signed him in the January window but he is to stay Stateside and play with the American outfit – as per the Charlotte Post.
It’s a step that makes sense, too, because he wasn’t going to play for us this season and every player needs to be playing at a decent level to improve.
Indeed, he gets the chance to stay in his home country and impress the Bhoys from afar with that motivation that if he does well he could break into our first team.
I do wonder, then, whether or not the defender will be a trailblazer for other players we sign from the States but that is something we will have to wait and see with.
In the meantime, it’s a wise call from the club and hopefully it’ll work out.
