Striker Leigh Griffiths says Celtic ideally want Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage.

The Hoops secured their place with an 8-4 aggregate win over FC Astana in their qualifying play-off earlier this week.

“You wouldn’t mind one of the big guns: Real Madrid, PSG, one of those,” Griffiths told BBC Scotland. “Every Celtic fan is sick of getting Barcelona, so we’ll try to avoid them. But we’re back in the big time.”

His side will learn their next opponents when the draw is made on Thursday – and team-mate James Forrest was in agreement.

“We’re looking forward to the draw on Thursday,” he added. “We’ve had Barcelona a couple of times in the last few years, it would be nice to get Real Madrid.”
