Celtic linked Nathan Byrne was in great form for Derby County in their pre season warm up against Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaers boys rolled up to Pride Park yesterday afternoon as the recorded a 2-1 win against The Rams.

Celtic linked Nathan Byrne was up against a United front line that consisted of Anthony Elanga, Juan Mata, Tahith Chong and Mason Greenwood.

Byrne, a £4m “target” for the Hoops was up against young Swedish sensation Elanga and by all accounts was a stand out as he kept the young 19 year old attacker at bay.

The Derby full back got a full 60 mins under his belt and put in a performance  described as having, “Good energy from right back and tidy in his play. It was his cross that Tom Lawrence headed over.”

Celtic have been linked to £4m rated Byrne as their hunt for a right sided full back continues as the Hoops received a double transfer blow yesterday with reported target Brandon Soppy looking set to join French champions Lille.

It was thought that the Soppy deal may be close to completion as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano hinted that Soppy was “next” on Celtic’s radar, but with Lille now entering the race for his signature, Celtic look to have turned their attentions to Byrne.

Byrne is an experienced 29 year old that started his professional career with Tottenham. After some loan spells at Brentford, Bournemouth and Crawley he earned a move to Swindon Town where he spent two season before earning a move to Wolves and then eventually Wigan.

He helped Wigan earn promotion to the English Championship after winning League 1 in 2018, and after four season at The Latics, he moved to Charlton on loan and then eventually at Derby County where he signed on in September 2020.

His form for The Rams has attracted the attention of the Hoops and he is now being touted for a summer switch to Paradise.
