As quoted by the Celtic View – via the club’s official website, Dedryck Boyata has thanked the club for being the reason behind his World Cup shot.

The powerful defender is going to be out in Russia this summer for Belgium with him stepping in for Vincent Kompany who has once again got injured.

He’s looking the business for his national team, too, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets significant minutes to impress this summer.

And, behind all of that, he has said that it’s the chance he has been given at Celtic to play every week that has got him the call-up:

“Playing in the World Cup is something which is very important to myself.

“I aimed to make sure the performances I put in each week were good enough for me to be picked for the squad.”

The Verdict

I’m really pleased for Boyata.

I know some of us think he is too error-prone but he has plenty of power and on-form he can really dominate attackers.

He might get the chance to show that on the biggest stage this summer, then, but let’s hope other clubs don’t notice and try and take him away from us.

Certainly, we’ll soon find out one way or another now.
