According to reports in England, Celtic have been dealt a massive transfer blow as one of their top targets has apparently signed a lucrative £10k per week contract with Wigan.

Charlie Wyke was widely expected to join Celtic in this summers transfer window as his contract with Sunderland had expired at the end of the season.

Celtic held talks with his representatives but the thirty goal striker seems to have been stalling on a decision and that has gave The Latics the green light to swoop with a tempting offer.

Sunderland boss, Lee Johnson, was resigned to losing the striker when, as reported by Born Celtic, he said of the striker, ” “Charlie, I would say the door is ajar, but we’re certainly not expecting him to come back.

“I’d say that it would be him coming back to us and saying he wants to talk again, effectively.

“My gut says that he will move on, I’d say 95% that he’ll move on.

“But we would leave the door ajar because at the moment, you never know.

“There’s a lot of people talking in the Championship but who aren’t in a great place in terms of being able to commit to players financially.

They seem to have been hit the hardest and in some cases, it’s the League One clubs who seem to be the largest spenders.”

And he wasn’t half right was he. All it took was a League One club to come up with an offer that Wyke looks like he will not turn down. At just 28 years of age, the big striker was hitting his prime but maybe Celtic could offer more.

Or at least you would think the opportunity to play in Europe, win trophies and become a legend with one of the biggest fan bases in the world would be enough to sway the powerful striker? We won’t hold our breath.
