Celtic host Old Firm rivals Rangers in a midday kick-off at Celtic Park on Saturday.

The hosts already enjoy a clear eight-point lead at the top of the table as they continue their defence of the title.

But the champions are now expected to be without former Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes for the rest of the season after suffering a confirmed broken leg on Boxing Day.

“Jonny had surgery today [Wednesday] and will now be out for some time as he begins the long road back to full fitness,” read a club statement. “He will make a full recovery but he’s unlikely to feature again this season.

“He will receive the best care and attention throughout the months ahead, while the thoughts and best wishes of everyone at Celtic and, indeed, the whole Celtic family, are with Jonny.”

Also still on the sidelines for the hosts are midfielder Tom Rogic, on loan winger Patrick Roberts and young full-back Anthony Ralston.

Rangers were hoping that Ryan Jack and Eduardo Herrera would both recover in time while Josh Windass returns from suspension.

Otherwise, skipper Lee Wallace, goalkeeper Jak Alnwick, midfielders Graham Dorrans and Jordan Rossiter, and forward Kenny Miller are all unavailable.
