Celtic walk back Lennon comments with official update

Celtic have provided an official club update on the status of midfielder Ryan Christie after his horror injury in action against Aberdeen on Sunday.

The Hoops star had to be stretchered off after a collision with Dons defender Dominic Ball in the first half of the Scottish Cup win at Hampden, later posting a photo on Instagram which showed the shocking full extent of the damage.

Neil Lennon’s initial post-match comments were hopeful of a potential return in time for next month’s Scottish Cup Final against Hearts, giving a absence time frame of three to four weeks.

However, in a message to supporters today, the club could not give any indication when he might be able to again compete for the first-team, confirming he had suffered ‘multiple facial fractures’ and is set to be treated with surgery this week.

That means his season could be over, which is of course is a big blow to our ‘treble treble’ charge over the next six weeks.

With 11 goals and 9 assists so far this season, Christie has emerged as a key player and he’ll be a big miss for the matches against the top six and the final of the cup.

Hopefully his recovery goes well and we seem him back on the pitch before long.
