Dutch flop Derk Boerrigter has given a rather amazing interview recently where he accused Celtic of wrecking his football career.

The now 32-year-old made the switch from Ajax back in the summer of 2013 after impressing at the Dutch giants and he arrived with some pedigree with 14 goals in 41 starts and 18 substitute showings.

His move to Scotland didn’t exactly go to plan for anyone and for a £3million fee we managed to get 8 starts out of him, 17 substitute showings and a whopping solitary goal.

The Daily Record quote his words.

“Celtic destroyed my career by making me play even though I was injured. That was despite me repeatedly telling them it was not a good idea. Celtic’s medical staff at that time were too poor for words. When I said that I was in pain they told me to go on my exercise bike at home. What sort of treatment do you call that?”

Accusing the club of forcing him to play and train through injury, Neil Lennon’s signing was finally put out of our misery in 2016 as we mutually agreed to cancel his contract even though he had 14 months left on his original contract.

I must admit I quite liked the other speech he gave in the interview, the attitude portrayed for me probably shows why no club has taken a risk on him since and he’s had to forge a career outside of the game.

“I told Celtic that I wanted to leave, but said I wanted to get some money as well. They refused to pay it. So I told them, ‘OK, I’ll stay put and you can pay me an entire year’s salary.’ That is what they did, but they gave me a lot of hassle about it.”

Now, nobody will know the true in and outs other than the player and the club, but if he wanted to paint himself in a good light here and not play the typical pampered football victim, he failed miserably.

He was, however, full of praise for the fans. Shame we didn’t see slightly more of him and could return those thoughts.
