Celtic’s chase for 34-cap talent could finally give fans exactly what they want this January

|

Celtic are interested in signing Olympiakos defender Omar Elabdellaoui during the January transfer window, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The paper say he is a £4m target for the Hoops, who see him as a long-term replacement for veteran right-back Mikael Lustig.

Celtic supporters have been craving a new first choice right-back for a number of transfer windows now and with the pressure on to deliver talent that will help secure more trophies in the second half of the season, it seems the club are finally ready to push the boat out and get a deal done.

The Hoops have already signed Vakoun Issouf Bayo, Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke this month but there have been zero defensive signings and bringing Elabellaoui to the club would be a real statement of intent.

He certainly fits the bill having initially got his football education at Manchester City before playing in Germany for Eintracht Braunschweig and most recently Greek giants Olympiakos.

With 34 caps for Norway too, he has experience of playing at a high level and would be a welcome addition to Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

With the club reported to be priced out of a move for Timothy Castagne, a move for the 27-year-old could be an excellent plan B option.
