That tackle.

What can be said about it that hasn’t already been said?

How the referee missed Callum Butcher’s, (can we call it a tackle? Because tackles are mean to be controlled?).

Let’s just call it a tackle for argument’s sake. How the referee missed Butcher’s tackle on David Turnbull remains a mystery but as the SFA Compliance Officer steps in, so has former Celtic striker Chris Sutton.

Sutton is known for his outspoken views and this incident is tailor made for Sutton’s opinion.

Speaking in The Daily Record, Sutton didn’t hold back when he said, “It was an outrageous tackle. He could have broken David Turnbull’s leg.

“Listen, I like Calum Butcher as a player – but that was miles over the top. It was reckless and dangerous. Turnbull was lucky to avoid serious injury.

“You can’t allow that sort of challenge to go unpunished. What sort of message does that send out about Scottish football?

“That we allow this kind of thing to go on? This is not the Wild West.

“I can’t fathom why the officials missed it in the first place. It was a clear red card.

“Scottish officials have had a bad week or so but this should have been an easy decision. People talk about VAR but it shouldn’t even need to go to a video replay to see that was an awful tackle.

“They’ve left the SFA with no choice but to step in and deal with it because that simply cannot go unpunished.”

Sutton is clearly in no mood to entertain those types of challenges in the Scottish game, and to be fair, it has been roundly criticised by reporters and pundits alike.

Over to you SFA.

  • Derek Ritchie says:

We know why they missed it. It’s the same reason they missed the other 6 or 7 red card tackles on Celtic players so far this season.

  • Scouse bhoy says:

The whole process is not fit for purpose. If the sfa take action then he should be suspended the next time they play celtic but that wont happen under the rules. It really needs updated.

  • 18871888 says:

The point is that the officials didn’t miss it, the ref awarded a yellow; therefore he saw it.

  • alan strang says:

was it not the same ref who sent porteous of for talking fresh air

  • Sophie Johnstone says:

Our of one ban and should’ve been facing another, and Sutton rates him, what as a hitman
