Southampton are set to up their chase for Stuart Armstrong this summer after missing out on James Maddison who went to Leicester City from Norwich.

Yesterday’s Scottish Record transfer live blog (8:00 am) is where this story originates from, and it’s certainly one that you could see happening.

Armstrong, by the looks of things, wants to leave the club this summer.

Last year we saw similar, of course, and he ended up staying put but that looks to be something he’s ready to reverse with a move to the Premier League.

He’s obviously a talented player but he’s not one we’ll massively miss – last year proved that.

The Verdict

I like Armstrong as a player and would obviously rather we kept players like him at the club but he is by no means irreplaceable.

Last season showed we’ve got other players that can come in and more than replace him so if he goes it’s not a massive blow.
