Fulham are the latest side showing interest in Celtic’s World Cup star Dedryck Boyata.

After an impressive summer in the Belgium set-up, is the sale of the defender now inevitable due to his contract situation at the club?

The Scottish Sun are the media outlet leading on the story of Fulham’s interest, claiming that the English Premier League new boys have had their heads turned by the Belgian’s performances in Russia this summer.

The paper also say that aside from the previously reported interest from Lazio, Turkish and French clubs are also keen on landing him during this transfer window.

With just 12 months left on his deal at Celtic Park, that could mean his exit is inevitable. Celtic can’t afford to let the player leave for nothing and it would make more sense selling him on the back of high profile performances in the World Cup than the January transfer window.

Radio Sei in Italy reported last month that Serie A side Lazio were willing to offer £7m for the player, so the Hoops would likely receive a significant seven-figure fee should it be determined he will move on.

There’s always the chance he signs a new contract of course, but the stars appear to be aligning for an exit.

Boyata has made over 100 appearances for the Hoops since joining from Manchester City and although at times his performances have been maddening, there is no doubt that he has improved hugely over the last 12 months under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers.
