Now that it seems Vinicius Souza will no longer be a target for Celtic (in my opinion we should have chased him) so that leaves the question: Who is on Ange’s shopping list?
In the first of four articles tonight, I am going to present players available for free and within our wage structure that I feel could add quality to the side.
First up is Portuguese midfielder Xeka.
A French champion with Lille in 2021 the 27-year-old helped the French side shock everyone by helping the club beat the likes of PSG and Lyon to the French title.
With over 140 appearances for the club, Xeka can play in that defensive midfield role Ange is trying to cover to allow Callum McGregor to push further up the park.
Valued at £8m [Transfermrkt] and on a reported weekly salary of £20k [Salary Sport] the Portuguese midfielder is certainly within Celtic’s budget, and as a free transfer, this couldbe one of those no brainers that we hear so much about.
Once touted as a target for Inter Milan back in March, it is clear that Xeka has the talent to succeed at the top.
Xeka also has a pass success rate of 89% [Sofa Score] and is two footed so can also slot into the left of midfield if needed.
