Paddy McCourt has become a coach at Derry City over the Irish Sea.
A fan favourite of ours, perhaps even a cult hero, McCourt was revered for his technical ability whilst he was at the club and it was only fitness issues that really halted him from becoming a real great.
Even so, we remember him fondly and it’s certainly nice to see him going back to a place he knows well as he takes on a coaching role:

The next question is, then, could this be the next step towards him becoming a coach for us?
Of course, it’s a bit early to say and we’ll have to see how he gets on but, at the same time, you could see him doing a fine job and he’d certainly warrant the respect of the players.
The Verdict
I’m intrigued to see how Paddy gets on at Derry and I’m fairly sure he’s going to do a good job.
He had a great footballing brain when he was on the field and if he can translate into his coaching he’s bound to be a hit.
