Craig Levein blames Celtic for Hearts relegation. Yep, you read it right the first time.

Craig Levein is well known for his controversial outburst’s over the years. From rants about referees to restoring the natural order between Hearts and Hibs. But todays latest has to be up there with the best.

Levein claimed today in the Football Daft Podcast the reason that Hearts were relegated was because “It was all about Celtic getting the title so they could try and break the record of nine in a row”. The former Scotland manager takes no accountability for a season that saw Hearts struggle badly in the league where they only picked up four wins in thirty games.

Now, it is no surprise that Levein took this stance seeing as he was directly responsible for Hearts demise last season. Played 30, drawn 11 and lost 15 and with a goal difference of -31, it is clear why Levein would take this opportunity to divert the attention from his failings as a manager onto the most successful club in Scotland.

Hearts played Celtic three times in that fateful season, losing all fixtures, scoring one goal and conceding 10. In fact, their record against their nearest relegation candidates, Hamilton was just as woeful. Playing the Accies three times, losing one and drawing two against a club with the lowest budget in the league is relegation form at its best.

Lets not forget that at the end of last season all member clubs voted unanimously, including Hearts, to end the league early so to suggest Hearts relegation is anyone’s fault but his own smacks of arrogance and denial. Levein was the architect of Hearts downfall, no-one else. Least of all Celtic.
