The “Red tops” in Scotland are well known for their sensationalist headlines when it comes to Celtic and the “pundits” that put the boot into the club (generally rolling out ex players for that privilege) but todays serving from the Daily Record must be an all time high for negative storylines about the Parkhead club.

The fortunes of the Hoops have been well documented over the last weeks and were brought to a head after the disgraceful scenes at Parkhead on Sunday night.

It’s not even lunchtime and on their online editions they have delivered no less than SEVEN negative Celtic storyline’s involving “sources” from various camps, including two ex Rangers players who know nothing about the club but suspect a lot……

In an interview with Brian Laudrup, who “suspects dressing room cliques”. The Dane said, “You can get cliques. It could be foreign players and home players. Or older players in one corner, younger players in another“. Totally unsubstantiated nonsense based on an opinion formed from baseless speculation which has formed the headline for this article.

They also rolled out former Celtic defender John Hughes who made a comparison to Neil Lennon’s current situation with that of the late Tommy Burns. Both managerial issues could not be further apart. Tommy was chasing a Rangers team that was spending their way into trouble during their nine in a row era. He had taken Celtic to the last day of the league after eventually losing out to Rangers, and although he was knocked out of the League Cup by Falkirk, he at least made the semi final stage of the competition. Not forgetting, the team played out their skin for Burns from the first day he took charge until that last league match of 1996/97.

Next up Gordan Parks talking of “silent assassins” and who makes claims about “well placed agents” making a mockery of Celtic’s transfer business when signing Albian Ajeti and speculates about Neil Lennon’s “private thoughts” about Shane Duffy’s ability. All inflammatory language designed to whip up more anti Celtic feeling amongst the support.

Those are just a few examples of the media taking great delight at the dip in Celtic’s fortunes and I, for one, hope that the team can ramp up performances and show them why we are the dominant club in Scotland.
