Celtic defender Kieran Tierney recognised straight away that the late penalty at Ross County should never have been given.

The hosts secured themselves a fortunate 2-2 draw after substitute Alex Schalk fell inside the area under no apparent contact from Hoops defender Erik Sviatchenko and Liam Boyce converted from the spot.

Both Tierney and substitute Patrick Roberts had earlier scored for the visitors either side of Michael Gardyne’s reply.

“I knew straight away it was a dive,” Tierney told BBC Scotland. “It’s not a nice part of the game, you can expect contact, but you’re not going to go down if there’s no contact. It’s as simple as that.

“I couldn’t believe it when the referee gave the penalty, everyone was so surprised,” he exclaimed. “The linesman had a great view and was standing straight in line with it, but obviously not.”
