Dutch Under-21 international defender Virgil van Dijk has confirmed that he really wants a move to Celtic.

“Celtic is a fantastic club and a step up for me” – Virgil van Dijk

The SPL champions continue to be linked with the Groningen centre-back as manager Neil Lennon attempts to increase his options at the back.

And while the likes of Everton, Newcastle United, Cardiff City and Brighton are also said to have shown an interest, van Dijk appears fixed on a move to Parkhead.

“Celtic is a fantastic club and a step up for me,” he told De Telegraaf, reports SkySports. “I now have to wait until the clubs agree.”

The 22-year-old is likely to cost his next club in the region of £1.8m.
