Celtic defender Fiacre Kelleher has joined Oxford United on a two-year deal.

The 21-year-old didn’t manage a senior game for the Scottish treble-winners and actually played 25 times on loan to Peterhead last season.

He arrives despite U’s head coach Michael Appleton seemingly being on his way to Leicester City as assistant manager.

“I came here for the club and, whether he stays or goes, I think the club will still be run brilliantly,” Kelleher reacted to BBC Radio Oxford. “It was a big deal to move from a club I’d been at since 16, but something I needed to do to progress my career.”
