Quoted by Football Insider, former Celtic and Scotland player Jackie McNamara has said that it may well be tough for the Hoops to get Odsonne Edouard to sign a new contract with the club.

The Bhoys are looking to do exactly that at the moment with the report underlining that talks are ongoing.

Obviously, it makes sense that we want to try and keep him or at least get him on as good a deal as possible that means when suitors come knocking they will have to pay a premium.

Getting him to stay, though, is going to be tough with McNamara suggesting that the financial side of things could be the sticking point.

In his quotes, he suggested that only being able to offer so much to the player wages wise will mean that other clubs from around Europe could be able to come in and gazump us.

He said:

“I think there’s a number of players they’ll want to hold onto, that they want there. You can only offer so much as well, it’s difficult for them to compete.

“They’ll have players there that they want to keep a hold of, want to build the team round for the next two seasons. The value, he’s done well, in terms of the team he’s very important, like a few of the players have been.”

Of course, we want to keep Edouard on board but, like Jackie says, it will be tough.
