With the Eddie Howe saga seemingly coming to an end, it looks like Celtic are starting to dip their toes into the transfer market. Dutch media outlet Voetbal International have reported that Celtic are interested in Ado den Haag’s 20 year old winger/full back Milan van Ewijk.

The youngster is entering the final year of his contract at Ado Den Haag and could be purchased at a bargain basement price but the Hoops face stiff competition from German clubs Hamburger, Schalke and SV Darmstadt. Belgian outfit KAA Gent are also said to be in the mix so it seems there is high demand for the young Dutchman.

Den Haag are currently fighting relegation from the Dutch Eredivisie and currently sit rooted bottom of the table. They are, however, only three points from safety so there is every chance that they could rescue their season but his agent, Style de Jong, has said Milan is fully focused on the relegation fight, ”At the moment Milan are focusing on the relegation battle with ADO.

“He’s not distracted by all the interest. Moreover, together we have made a step-by-step plan to make the best choices in his fledgling but promising career.

“We’re sticking to that.”

With Celtic struggling to find a settled right back since the days of the iconic Mikael Lustig, the feeling is that young van Ewijk would be a strong and more reliable candidate than the current loanee Jonjoe Kenny and Celtic’s other only recognised right back Anthony Ralston.

But with competition looking really high to capture his signature, Celtic will need to make their move quick at the end of the Dutch season.
